The Medicine Hat Food Bank is powered by Volunteers LIKE YOU!

We offer volunteer opportunities that make a significant difference to the lives of low-income people in the Medicine Hat and surrounding area. Donations of time or talents is always welcome.

Our volunteer shifts are mainly Monday to Friday with the exception of events.


Each volunteer is now able to sign onto our new online portal, InitLive, and select shifts that you would like to work. There is also a free app available to download onto your phones.

Take a moment to watch the training videos (approx 40 min) then create a profile, using your email address Then you will need to add our organization

Once your profile is created and your PIC-VS is verified, you will be able to start signing up for shifts.

It is that simple!

  • Hamper Distribution

  • Hamper Preparation

  • Brown Bag Lunch

  • Warehouse

  • Cleaning

  • Drivers

  • After Hours Events (when available)

All of these shifts can be seen once in the online portal.​

Safety Protocols

We would like our volunteers to know that we have protocols in place for COVID-19.

The food bank has implemented social distancing  as much as possible in our current location but we find that having our volunteers wearing masks and washing their hands is the best solution in our small space. We would ask that if you are sick or not feeling well that you notify us and not come in. You can check with AHS using their online screening tool.
