The Medicine Hat and District Food Bank does not receive any government funding and therefore relies solely upon the generous donations from our community.
While food donations are appreciated, we have extensive buying power at both the local and national level. We can use our buying power to purchase TWO cans of soup for every ONE can of soup you donate!
Monetary Donation Options
You can now e-transfer us using through your banking. These should not require a password as we are set up for it to automatically deposit.
Canada Helps is another way you can donate to us. This site also has a tool where you can fundraise for us as well.
Donations that are done using Facebook and GoFundMe are processed through the PayPal Giving Fund, or you can give to us directly through there.
Legacy Donations is our newest way to donate.
Memorial donations are also accepted. They can be given directly to us or through My Tribute Gift , which is set up with the funeral home and would then be available on their website for your loved ones obituary. When this donation comes in we issue a letter to the funeral home which is passed onto the family of the loved one stating that a donation was made in their name and we will include who the donor is. We do not include an amount in the letter to the family. Afterwards a receipt is issued to the donor as well.
Visa & Mastercard are accepted on site or can also be phoned in.
Cheques can be made payable to Medicine Hat Food Bank
Debit is available on site.
Cash is always accepted.
See our Donor Matrix for different levels of donations and what is included with that donation.
Why Leave a Legacy?
By leaving a gift to the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank's Community Food & Wellness Centre project, you are making a significant contribution to the future of food sustainability in our community.
What is Legacy/Planned Giving?
Planned giving is a win-win approach to charitable donations that benefit both the donor and the Community Food & Wellness Centre during a lifetime or as part of an estate. This forward thinking approach to giving is "planned" because often these assets are not liquid, have tax consequences and are generally transferred via a will or other written means.
Planned giving is easy and you don't have to be wealthy to do it. Whether it is naming the Community Food & Wellness Centre in your will or trust for a modest amount, or a gift of house and property, there is an easy option that is right for you.
It can involve assets you might never think of.
A life insurance policy
A checking or savings account
These are all assets that can be leveraged in planned gifts to the Community Food & Wellness Centre.
It can provide generous tax benefits.
Depending on the type of gift, short-term and/or long term tax benefits may apply. Donors at a variety of income levels can benefit. Your lawyer will be able to work with you to make your wishes come known.
It is long remembered.
Designating a planned gift automatically makes you a member of the Community Food & Wellness Centre's Circle of Champions. Champions will receive immediate recognition on the organizations website, through social media and their name will be permanently place on the wall as a Circle of Champions member.
If you have any questions about the Circle of Champions, which is the Community Food & Wellness Centre's legacy program, please give us a call.
