Meet The Team
My name is Melissa Mullis. I am a wife of 20 years, a mother to a teenage boy named Wyatt and a dog mom to three crazy hunting dogs. I am not originally from Medicine Hat but have enjoyed the last 22 years in this amazing city.
My favourite thing about my job at the Root Cellar Food & Wellness Hub is that I get to see the best in people every day. To witness the joy from our families to receive support and to see the kindness of our donors. I feel incredibly grateful to have a front row seat to see the best of our community.
I have enjoyed the last five years as Programs Coordinator, Marketing and events manager, and I am so grateful for my new role as Executive Director .I am excited to see the fun ways we can fundraise and work collectively with the community to support our families!
My name is Shay Hardekopf, and I am the Operations Manager at the Root Cellar. I've spent the last 15 years of my career in leadership. Leadership to me has always meant serving others. Helping the people around me develop the best versions of themselves has pushed me to develop my heart and passion for service. I'm very proud to be one of the newest Managers on the Root Cellar team and look forward to growing with the community.
When I'm not working you can find me spending time at home with my husband, our Bernese Mountain dog Maggie, and 2 senior cats Pants and Paul. I generally have my nose in a book in the winter months, and hands and feet in the garden in the spring, summer or fall!

My Name is Nicole Deline I am originally from Bow Island but have lived in Medicine Hat most of my adult life. I am married and have one wonderful stepdaughter, Emily. We have no pets of our own, but you will often hear me referring to my father’s Boston Terrier Winston as my favorite brother!
As a family we love to camp and spend lots of time in Cypress Hills. We can also be found frequenting many of Medicine Hat's amazing golf courses in the summertime. We spend most of the winter waiting for spring so we can camp and golf again! I am also very passionate about infertility awareness and am active in several organizations and supports related to the infertility community.
I am a new part of the team here at the Root Cellar and have been amazed at so many things since taking the Programs Coordinator position. It has been so great to see how committed our community is at getting to the root of food insecurity in our city. I am so excited for our Food First program to begin again in the new year and the difference it will make in the lives of our clients for years to come
My name is Lindsay Lepard, I am the Volunteer Coordinator at the Root Cellar Food & Wellness Hub. My Passion is helping and supporting people in our community. This bring me so much pleasure to know that they/we are making a difference in our community.
I have been married for 12 years and together we have 2 children, Grayson he is 8 years old and Aspyn she is 3 years old. On our days off together, we love to spend time as a family, we enjoy going to parks, swimming, and day trips to Calgary. We also have cat; her name is Harley. She is 15 and was one of the first animals my husband and I had join our family when we bought our first Condo.
I moved from the United Kingdom 3 years ago and immediately feel in love with Canada, not only the beautiful views and culture but mostly the people. I live with my husband, two children and our dog Poppy, and it is our dream that we will remain in Canada for the foreseeable future.
Since living here, I have taken up a few new hobbies including ice skating, softball, and roller skating. However, my favorite hobby is skiing, having only done this for the first time when I arrived in Canada. This has been one of my biggest achievements having visited various ski resorts around Alberta and British Columbia.
My professional background is Social Work, having qualified in 2012, and worked in various settings over the years with children, young people, and families. My passion throughout my career is to support people who are in need by providing them with the tools towards independence.
I initially began volunteering in 2020 in the height of the pandemic, wanting to support the people in the community to receive food. I am honored to be part of the team at the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub, not only being able to meet and support people in the local area but to provide a first-class service within my role as the Intake Advisor. I cannot wait for the community to be able to engage in all our services that the Root Cellar will have available. Watch this Space!!
