| Receive Assistance Applying For Support ... With the high cost of living in Alberta, many from our community are finding it difficult to make ends meet. Thanks for your continued support as we reach out with a hand up to those in crisis in our community. The Medicine Hat and District Food Bank is a facility where people in temporary need of food in our community have access to our Grocery Basket every two weeks. Here in Medicine Hat we strive to make receiving assistance as easy and stress free as possible. Our goal is to make sure that you leave with a smile on your face and a feeling that we understand. |
| Helping People Help Themselves We assist on location about 600 people monthly plus several other agencies in our community. About 30% of our clients are children. Children DO NOT choose poverty. The Medicine Hat Food Bank “helps people help themselves”. We do that in a variety of ways, but primarily by providing food hampers designed to supplement a client’s food needs. How many people we feed yearly: 2006 – 1690 Household Hampers, 3465 Household Choice Room = 7352 people 2007 – 948 Household Hampers, 2171 Household Choice Room = 6380 people 2008 – 1148 Household Hampers, 2480 Household Choice Room = 3709 people (July08) Requirements / How To Receive Food Clients are asked to qualify for this service by bringing in: identification for each member of the household, rent/mortgage receipt, utility bill, child care expenses, medical expenses and proof of income. You must bring in proof of address. We need this to verify that you are a resident of our area. We need this to ensure that you receive the support you and your family need. Hampers are all prepared by teams of volunteers weekly. Please don’t forget – YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN BAGS! ![]() Each hamper is prepared for individuals or families and include nutritionally balanced food choices from the Canada Food Guide. Thanks to the generous donation of our community, we are not only able to provide canned and dry food pantry items to our clients, but hampers also include meat and dairy items. Clients then have a selection of fresh vegetables in our choice room along with other specialty items that have been received.
